things i like. mostly ridiculous.
Inspired by my friend Rocky, I have begun a delightful process of figuring our what kind of music I like.
That sounds like a bit of a dumb statement, doesn't? How is it that a 33 year-old singer/songwriter doesn't know what kind of music he likes? How is it that a man who has written several songs that have contributed to the worshipping life of at least one church does not know what to say when asked "So who do you like to listen to?"
It's ridiculous. Go ahead - judge me.
Rocky's own journey began when his hard-drive crashed, took all of his music with it...and he wasn't sad. According to him, all he had done was wait fro the "Best of..." lists to come out at the end of the year and fire up BitTorrent to download them. As a result, there was nothing there that he was invested in.
Now...I think Rocky and I have different thoughts when it comes to Torrents. I'm wildly in favor of file-sharing for many reasons including not allowing someone to define copying as theft. It's not (Remember, this is coming from a songwriter here). However, Rocky and I do agree when it comes to investment.
Like him, I am not invested in much of the music I downloaded. It was just too easy to get my hands on, therefore, there is not much value to it. Couple that with my growing dissatisfaction with "sensitive male singer/songwriter" music (that's what I write so shouldn't I like it?) and you have a recipe for a man trying to find music he loves.
Rocky and I have an idea to start a podcast jawing on about the music we've found, but til that happens I'll periodically foist my new found favorites on you.
