Walking on Water (in the dark)

At church we are beginning a new experience on Sunday nights.  Part worship, part education, part fellowship.  We meet for 5-7 week chunks and learn Bible stories along a common theme.

Our first theme is "Water," and the first story is of Jesus and Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14.

In addition to the "Scripture Fact Sheet" and normal response activities (drawing, poems, etc) that I am responsible for, each week a committee member is charged with coming up with some additional discussion prompts and activities.  Check out the genius biblical interpretation work this week's member just sent me:

It just occurred to me today in reading the passage that all this happened in the dark!  Not only was it storming, it was pitch black, because there are no lights on the boat or shore, and there is no such thing as a Coast Guard to save you.  If your boat went down, there really was no hope for you.  That would have been very scary, pitching around in the total darkness, with no landmarks at all for guidance.

She's planning to have activities and games in which people are blindfolded.

Holy crap.  Thank God for the Priesthood of All Believers.  3 years of seminary doesn't teach you that kind of creativity.

And they call pastors the Bible "experts"... Puh-shaw.
